SUMMARY:New Year's Day Pranayama & Yoga Nidra
DESCRIPTION:New Year’s Day Pranayama & Yoga Nidra\n6pm – RSVP Required – By Donation\nNataraja School of Traditional Yoga\nContact Kara @ 707.235.1413\, sunyogadance@gmail.com \nJoin me in opening our heart space through yogic practices while setting our intentions for the new year and giving thanks for all the blessings in our life. \nYoga Nidra is an experience of expanded awareness in a state of deep relaxation\, promoting parasympathetic dominance. Practiced lying down in savasana with guided verbal instructions that occupy the mind as the body relaxes\, we shift into pratyahara (sense withdrawal) – remaining a witness\, awake and aware\, we move into a subtle state of deep conscious sleep (the state between wakefulness and sleep). We work through levels of the unconscious and subconscious\, removing energetic blockages. \nThis experience is a powerful way to set our intention for the new year and plant it’s seeds with our Sankalpa (Resolve\, Resolution\, Force of Will) which is established during yoga nidra. When our mind is calm and quiet during yoga nidra it is more receptive and sensitive to our intentions as they are impressed on the subconscious mind. \nWe will begin with a peace chant\, calming & subtle evening yogic breathing practices including mantra pranayama – breathing practices with chanting or rumination on the Om & internal sound current – nada) before the yoga nidra practice.

SUMMARY:Sing\, Paint\, Love
DESCRIPTION:Surrender to the flow of sound through your bodies instrument\, quiet the mind and find your natural state of bliss. Gather with community to sing ourselves alive and send peace within and without. An evening of Indian Note singing practice on presence\, Devotional Chants and sacred english songs with Kiranjot Kaur and Kim Atkinson. Watch Rachel Balunsat as she creates live paintings in the resonant field of the group singing experience. Ceremonial Tea will be served and shared. \nKiranjot Kaur is a Vocalist\, founding member of CopperWimmin\, Kundalini Yoga teacher\, Indian Classical music teacher and a devotee of the Divine Mother. Copper Wimmin were featured on Democracy Now and their song Bleeding Rivers was featured on the Showtime Television series The L Word. In 2006 Kiranjot refocused her career around Indian classical music and spent five years living and studying under the guidance of her beloved teacher Dr. Ustad Narindar Singh in Amritsar\, India. No longer interested in performance where the audience is separate from the performer\, Kiranjot brings together her early experiences of community singing with Sweet Honey in the Rock and Bobby McFerrin with her love of Indian Classical music and the Kirtan tradition. From her travels through India to Chile and back she discovered that her favorite thing in this world is using her voice to inspire everyone to use their voices for quieting the mind\, surrendering to presence and revolutionary self-love. \nKiranjot invites everyone to be transformed by the healing power of their own voice as well as the practice of singing together as ONE. \nKim Atkinson:\nAs a professional percussionist\, Kim has worked with Master musicians and Dancers from the US\, Africa\, the Caribbean and Brazil since 1976. He has performed at such prestigious venues as the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival\, Brazilian Grand Carnaval Balls\, Stern Grove Summer Music Festival and Harrah’s Club in Reno\, Nevada. In 2004\, Kim performed and facilitated with Micky Hart’s “Planet Drum” holding the groove for over 4000 drummers. This is now the Guinness World Record for the most people playing the same song.\nCurrently\, Kim teaches young children the wonders of Body Rhythm\, teaches high school students World Percussion music\, accompanies poets and kirtan singers\, leads his own Brazilian style parade group\, does freelance percussion work\, teaches West African Music\, takes people on vision quests to Havasupai AZ\, and is learning to play new instruments\, including acoustic guitar and the most challenging drum in the world : East Indian Tabla. \nRachel Balunsat is a Visionary Abstract artist. She studied Las Bellas Arts at La Universidad de Granada and UCSC. But she fell uninspired as the world got more chaotic. Eventually she became a student of Tibetan Buddhism and after several long retreats\, Rachel finally felt a calling to paint Buddhas and Goddesses from her heart and was re-inspired. She was blessed with the name Dolma\, Tibetan name for Green Tara\, by her Lama. Soon after\, Studying with Visionary painter Amanda Sage sent her into a cathartic soul portrait which unleashed yet another direction following inner guidance. Dolma’s paintings have now become abstract renderings of her inner world expressing itself through color and movement\, spontaneity and playfulness.
